When Pope Francis comes to New York City this September, he’ll be riding a pedal-powered vehicle.
Well, we’re just joking.
“We would love to see the Pope coming into New York City riding his Pedal Powered Popemobile,” said Jen Benepe, publisher of Cyclists International, and owner of Hotvelociti. “It would show that he is serious about saving the world from the dangerous impact of car pollutants, but more importantly, that he wants to be on the same level and breathing the outside air with the regular person.”
But Pope Francis is coming to New York City this coming September, according to reports.
“New York City will be excited and delighted to host Pope Francis during his visit to the United States this September,” said Mayor Bill DeBlasio today.
But could he come on a human powered vehicle? Apparently he owns one!
“I was proud to extend an invitation for His Holiness to visit New York when I met with Cardinal Parolin during our visit to the Vatican last year, and the Pope should know New York will welcome him with open arms,” Hizzonor continued.
“Pope Francis is the leading global voice on issues of social justice and income inequality, and New Yorkers from all backgrounds will be tremendously humbled and honored to hear his message right here in our city later this year,” continued Mayor DeBlasio.
“Hopefully, we’ll hear that message being delivered from a bicycle, or a pedal-powered vehicle,” said Ms. Benepe. “So many famous world leaders –such as those coming to the United Nations every September, come to New York encumbered by huge caravans of shiny, black limousines, surrounded by the screaming sirens and flashing lights of NY Police. This would show how much more of a peoples’ man he is, than a high-flying dignitary out of touch with humanity.”
