And now for something completely unrelated to cycling. Or maybe not. Elephants walk through the Mufwe Lodge hotel in Zambia so they can gorge on the fruit lying on the other side of the garden.
When the owners built the hotel, they had no idea that the structure lay on an ancient elephant path, and that every year, the elephants would not alter their path for the hotel.
We love the respect for nature, life, and the small elephant baby who lies down in the reception hall.
Can we transition to that ideal on the roads in the United States–or even in the forests? Let’s make that a long term goal. The lack of care for wild animals in the U.S. means many are run over by speeding drivers. The carcasses of deer, raccoons, fox, and many many others dot our roads and highways.
When you consider the options, of creating fences, or under road passageways, it wouldn’t cost that much more to save animals would it?
And it would make driving and riding much safer, and more pleasant.
